The main goal is to maintain and further update the RGI glacier inventory data set. Data and technical documentations can be downloaded here

With great sadness we inform that RGI WG co-chair Graham Cogley passed away in October 2018. See obituary

Symposia

IACS Assemblies occur every two years: at the IUGG General Assemblies which take place every 4 years and include all 8 IUGG Associations, and once in between typically jointly with 1-2 other IUGG Associations.

Debris-covered glaciers

The overarching aim of the debris-covered glaciers Working Group is to advance our understanding of how debris impacts glacier response to climate at the local, regional, and global scale. This is a necessary precursor to accurately representing debris-covered glaciers in models of regional runoff and sea-level change projections.

What is the ECS Award?

The IACS Early Career Scientist (ECS) Prize is a cash prize of €1000 awarded every two years to two early career scientists who have published the best scientific papers on a cryospheric subject as assessed by an independent evaluation committee. The objective of the prize is to recognize excellence in cryospheric science by honouring and promoting two ECS scientists, and to draw attention to the work of IACS.

Awardees must be IACS members by the time the award is received.

Honorary Member

The Bureau may nominate persons who have given outstanding service to IACS to a Plenary Administrative Session for recognition as “Honorary Members of IACS”. See IACS Statutes

What are Working Groups?

Any IACS Member can submit a proposal to the IACS Bureau to initiate a Working Group (WG). WGs address scientific problems of the cryosphere that are timely and well constrained.WGs shall have explicit aims, objectives, milestones and deliverables. They should be international in composition. They shall define the instruments, for example workshops and conferences, which they will use to achieve their aims and objectives. Working Groups will normally be limited to up to four years duration. They may be renewed for up to a further four years in exceptional circumstances. Working Groups report annually to the Bureau through the appropriate IACS Head of Division. The chair, co-chairs, and all of Working Group members must be IACS members. See the Terms of Reference (ToR) and the guidelines for proposing a new Working Group for further information.
